Welcome to the Figures of Speech website. This sites focus is on a UK Hip hop and underground rap group. Consiting of the Lead Members Mischief and Rasputin. Meeting at University, Mischief (Ash) who had been apart of the early youth underground Manchester movements formed with Rasputin (Neil) who’s first live performance was when the duo were invited to an open mic action during a DJ Kool Herc concert. This was after the two met Dj Kool Herc earlier on that night. After the success of the night the two then began to develop their skills further and set up figures of speech in 1998.
The Two began to accumulate numerous events under their belts. Every week applying their Mc skills in the Art of UK Hip Hop to an Open Mic Night in The Castle Rock Cafe, Junction 21 and The Charlotte in Leicester. These Jam Spots saw many many UK hip hop Artists pass through including Apocraphe from Main Rock Recordings his Label mate Troy Scalples (one of the freestyle Champions) and crew, Sir Smurf little from the legendary Colony (Conspicuous, DJ Skully, Grimlock etc.), Nottingham’s Scorzayzee and also saw regular appearences from up coming British artists.

The two lyricists then started to get the Figures of Speech name onto the Street, dropping lyrics at many open mic nights and freestyle sessions.

Featuring The Lengendary Colony’s own, Smurf and Figures of Speech crew member Lil ne and more..
Perfromances at the Charlotte Bar/Club in Leicester as well as Junction 21, Leciester University, Demontfort University earned the Figures of Speech the respect of underground UK hip hop artists.
They started concentrating on an EP in 2001 but due to University workload the pair had to place their concentration else where.
This did not stop their UK Hip hop
Rasputin and Mischief(Radio show founder) applied for the Radio show on, the UK’s No.1 Student Radio show. The show was announce as 1 hour on a thursday night, the Beat Poetry UK Hip Hop show included many guests. The show was based around the Hip Hop Past, Present but more important, the Future!. The Concept included interviews and interludes performed in rap, DJ sessions (resident:Mischief and Rasputin) long freestyle sessions always live and uneditted.
Referring now to a cross section of listeners of UK Hip Hop music, the sense unity regardless of Race, religion or sex are amazing and inevitable factors of the music. “ain’t about where your from It’s about where your at!, so MC’s that are Battling on the base of colour of skin or ethnic background, Quit the music!”- Mischief . Though they are not strict battle MCs there freestyle techniques show their ability of punches, flow, technique and they make sense!. There are so many mcs that don’ actually freestyle, they have hundreds of memorised lyrics in their head. This however is easily ripped apart when you can freestyle well.
Back Home 2004
After completing University the pair had won two awards for their underground UK Hip Hop Radio Show Beat Poetry and were invited back to host the show again this time on a Wednesday for two hours. This was more relaxing and allowed them to inlude Guests: Smurf from the Colony, Apoc from Main Rock recordings, Wilison dropping it in French!Mancheter based Mc Lil Ne. Rasputin had known Lil ne for many years. Now with UK Hip Hop in his eyes he wanted to put ideas into the Figures of Speech network. The Figures of Speech crew went back to touring the Manchester clubs getting invloved in events at the scubar with freestyling and Open mic seesions. The Figures of Speech have tried to get their name reconginsed with some of the other Manchester groups like Broke ‘n English, Northern Monkees & Manchu Worriors….
Where Now?
The crew are currently developing the long awaited EP following the Album; 5 years in the making they decided to put back the development many times, due to various reasons any Up and Coming mc or group is aware of.

So what for 2006?
The crew have now been putting all efforts into The EP and forthcoming LP, financially better standing supported by there career routes. This has provided the funds For the Recording, Production, Promotion, pressing and distribution of the E.P & L.P, the UK Hip Hop nights in Mancheter and Cheshire. They have been setting up there own home studio recoding facilities, Producing Beats and also get there tunes out to the other local mc and hip hop bands to drop a lyric.

“We are belivers in true UK hip hop we do not consider our self s to be strictly UK Hip hop artists, However we are British and rap in our British accents. Mischief & Rasputin living in the Sub-berbs of Greater Manchester and Lil ne. We ain’t your average Blingistic Freaks! there are far two many rappers trying to act like they are part of the Super-Star American Scene and rap with American accents. However at the other end of the spectrum UK artists are quick to forget the Roots and meanings of Hip Hop and therefore not appriciating some of the more deep and quality American Hip Hop, which is still at a very high standard with very good beat production and some of the best flows and content heard. We believe that we express the realities of growing up in the UK, the Up’s, the Down’s and our own experiences of life and the Hip Hop industry as a whole”. Mischief and Rasputin.

Rasputin - Peace to Baby Dinosaw, You know that the flipping monk is one one of the top Breakdancers in the UK (Not forgetting mouse) and i’d battle any mc that would try and say different, and i know you’d battle the breakers anyway. Ady Browse keep smoke’in we gonna do this and show true skill, know what oi mean. Tot, Boadge, Harold anyone i haven’t mention who has givern me the support to be fully confident in what i do, you’ll get sorted now worries.
Mischief - Peace to all the peeps that know me, Everyone from ma home town, Karl (comin out to Bermuda to see ya after New year! Keep Blazin!), Salim, Danny, Rory and Jin, its peeps like you lot that keep us writing and Performing some of our best shows.
