Figures of Speech - Hip Hop Artists

Skinnyman by name or nature is what you see is what you get. Sometimes he has wondered if his name should have been naughty, but it’s Skinnyman cos he’s a skinny cos I he’s a Skinnyman.

Originating from Leeds, Skinny moved to North London when he was 5. Finding a melting pot of cultures suddenly on his doorstep Skinny took to the streets, immersing himself primarily in the musical culture of reggae and dance hall whilst at home loving the soulful sounds coming from his mum\’s record player.

First time on stage was when he was about 6 or 7 and he had to do a school play and he didn’t wanna get down with the bullshit so he said “the only way I’m gonna be involved is if I can write my own script for my part” and they said yeah. So he built myself a Rubik’s cube, put on a Rubik’s cube costume and done a rap about the Rubik’s cube and the mathematical structures of it. So that was the first time he was on stage doing a rap when he was in primary school as an infant.

Skinny eventually signed his first deal with Talkin’ Loud and wrote and completed a handful of album tracks whilst at the Talkin’ Loud label.

However, before the album was finished Skinny was sent to jail for 9 months for distribution of marijuana. Whilst he was inside Talkin Loud was shut down by its parent company, freeing SkinnyMan from his contract and leaving him to develop his album at Self Destruct Music upon his release.

Now with a deal via Low Life Records the ‘Council Estate of Mind’ album was released on August 1st 2004. With tracks, such as “if I make it to tomorrow” and features on Foreign beggars album, skinnyman is a true UK Rapper.

Asaviour was born, raised in West Yorkshire hooking up with Jehst, Usmaan, Evil ED, Tommy Evans and other members of the YNR. He made his vinyl debut in 1999 with the highly acclaimed ” Premonitions EP” by Jehst. From there he moved to Manchester making numerous demos, doing shows around the country and further developing his skills as an emcee and producer.

Around the same time he also appeared on Tommy Evan’s “Mourning Skies”, taken from “The Turbulent Times Of…” EP/CD (YNR) and “Monotony”, the second single from Jehst’s classic “Falling Down” LP (Low Life) before dropping his second solo outing, the highly acclaimed 12” single “The Homecoming” b/w “Money In The Bank (Remix)” (feat. Yungun and Kyza) on YNR in 2004.

Known to tear up shows from North to South Asaviour has performed all over the UK along side the likes of: Non Phixion, J-Zone, Q-Bert, Atmosphere and DJ Ca$h Money he has recently finished the nationwide \”Falling Down tour\” alongside Jehst and DJ IQ and is already back in the studio working on his next project…..

An outstanding live performer, Asaviours skills are by no means limited to the studio and he has built up a reputation on the live circuit tearing up stages with Jehst and DJ IQ throughout the UK and abroad. He has also racked up a number of solo performances and recently appeared as part of renowned Producer/DJ Ghost’s “Seldom Seen Often Heard” Tour along with Verb T and Kashmere.
