28 03 07 : GRAND WIZARD THEODORE
Inventor of the scratch turns it out A man like Grand Wizard Theodore is the most legendary of legends. Now, this is partly because you don't get a name like Grand Wizard Theodore in the Bronx without some serious skills to back you up (you get a name like Shit Master Rubbish or something) and partly this is because he single-handedly invented the scratch. We're talking about a time before crack, Bronx summers and ball court freestyle battles. A fertile soil from which one man created a piece of Hip Hop history that still resonates today. And here's why… By stopping the record but keeping the beat going while his mum yelled at him a 13 year old kid in the South Bronx became responsible for every scratch, show and turntablist that hip-hop has produced in the last 30 years. He created the cornerstone of hip hop. That's 5 seconds of scratching that never stopped and isn't about to any time soon. Not bad particularly as rather than resting on his laurels like some of his contemporaries Theo went on to hone his skills over countless parties, battles and scratch shows and today he is still one of the best party rockers in the world. Not to mention the most experienced. But he is not confined to a misty heyday belt buckles and bell-bottom Lee suits. GWT is still in the game, and still the grand wizard that's guaranteed to rock any party and rock it right, right? And as if that wasn't enough, we got so excited we decided we were going to throw the Wiz a heavyweight playmate so we're teaming him up with one of the best party rockers and turntablists the UK has ever produced for one amazing night of dancefloor banging deck skills. Mr Thing is a DJ extraordinaire. The former Scratch Pervert is the uncontested party DJ of the crew. Thing knows the tracks that truly rock a crowd but besides skills and experience, Thing has dedication like no other when it come to digging for those untouched and unrivalled breaks and beats. Not many people would dare step to him. That is why last year BBE records got him to team up the legendary DJ Premier to do a joint compilation called The Kings Of Hip-Hop, and that's why we teamed him up with the Grand Wizard himself. There's gonna be sparks flyin.
