Surfing around the Internet as you do I found this very interesting clothing label after they left some images in the Forum on my UK Runnings website. Being a complete Hip-Hop freak as I am I was instantly drawn in by phat Tee-Shirts with slogans like ‘Grime Pays’ and ‘I Came From Nothing’ on. I loved the colours too, bright, sharp and very 2008! So I managed to track um down and I grabbed some time with Michael the director of the company.
So Michael, how’s it going bruv? Thanks for taking time to do this interview. Yeh man loving clothes, so tell me when did you start the company? Hey Tricksta I’m doing good. Well the idea for “I CAME FROM NOTHING © ™” came to me summer 2007. I had £10 and decided to start making tees by hand to see if I could make some cash. How did it all come about and what was your main inspiration for starting I Came From Nothing? I’ve been a graphic designer for the last 10 years working for various agencies and decided to do it for myself. I’m a sneaker head & dj, so I’m always looking exclusive tees. You must be a Hip-Hop fan. You’ve got T’s inspired by acts like Kayne and Fat Joe. What kind of label would you say you are? How would you describe your label? Yeah I love Hip-Hop & R‘n’B. I get inspiration from all walks of life, skate, bmx, rock & urban sounds. Right now the label is in its early stages, but I’d like to take it on more art led themes, with fresh and clean designs. Who does the designs and comes up with the ideas? Lol, hey its all me dude, design, ideas, websites, myspace the lot, only me. So how many lines/designs do you have at the moment? Right now I have about 20+ designs in progress, I try to do about 1 a week. Is it or all just Tee-Shirts or do you do anything else? Right now I have trucker hats in production. I also do skate decks, canvas art & hoodies. With New Eras & Varsity jackets coming soon…!!! Right now my best sellers are, ABE, LOHAN & YOU GOTTA HAVE SOLE. What are your main aims for the future? Where do you want to be this time next year?
